Story Synopsis

The play unfolds during a cultural event organized to honor a fallen Liberation War hero who was later buried in New York. The event's chief guest, businessman Amjad, arrives expecting special treatment. Amid the ceremony appears Khyepa Pagla, a freedom fighter whose memories remain painful. Through a series of confrontations, Khyepa Pagla exposes the hypocrisy of individuals hiding their true identities behind wealth and status.

Recipient of Bangladesh's prestigious Ekushey Padak, S. M. Solaiman was a pioneering force in Bengali theatre. He introduced the concept of musical drama in Bangladesh and excelled as a playwright, director, actor, singer, lyricist, and music composer. Over the years, he repeatedly visited New York and staged several memorable productions, including Janomdukhi Maa, Court Marshal, Kobor, Aamena Shundori, and Khyepa Paaglar Pyanchaal.

First Visit to New York

S. M. Solaiman visited New York with his documentary Oraa Nurjahan. During his nine-month stay, he directed productions including Janomdukhi Maa and Bibaho Shomachaar through the Bangladesh Theatre of America (BTA).
